A la edad de 16 años comenzó su pericia en la fotografía y desde entonces ha recorrido cerca de 60 países con la única obsesión de capturar imágenes fascinantes del mundo natural. Es amante asimismo de las distintas expresiones de la vida humana, lo que le ha llevado a publicar más de 400 reportajes fotográficos en revistas como Traveler, GEO, Viajes Nacional Geographic, Viajar, Viajeros o Lonely Planet, entre otras muchas. Sus fotos ilustran más de 15 libros de gran formato. Ha expuesto en el Museo de Ciencias Naturales de Madrid y ha llevado a cabo trabajos fotográficos y de video para la Unión Europea. Ha participado como profesor en Fotonature -http://www.fotonaturelapalma.com/- y en el ciclo: Un año de fotografía -http://vimeo.com/21482037-.En la actualidad continúa con sus colaboraciones en el mundo editorial y trabaja para el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente a través de TRAGSA, donde sus fotografías ilustran libros, carteles, exposiciones, audiovisuales y centros de interpretación. Entre los centros de interpretación más destacados se encuentran los del Parque Nacional de los Picos de Europa, Parque Nacional de Ordesa, Parque Nacional de Daimiel, Parque Natural del Alto Tajo (centros de Corduente, Zaorejas, Checa y Orea), Parque Natural del Río Dulce (Mandayona), Parque Municipal de La Mitjana (Lleída) y Monumento Natural del Nacimiento del Río Cuervo (Cuenca). Trabaja con varias agencias fotográficas Fototeca 9X12, Biosphoto, Sea Pics, Aurora Photo, Westend 61,Manbos y colabora con ONG´s como WWF/ADENA, CBD Hábitat y la Fundación Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente. David Santiago´s photographs are known through his journalistic and artistic skills.
